Sheen, 46, may have taken on a number of quirky roles in his career, but this time he’s getting serious. The actor and comedian has been cast as the President of the United States in the sequel to Rodriguez’s Grindhouse film “Machete.” The director announced the news on Twitter.

“I just cast Charlie Sheen in #machetekills as the president of the United States! Who better? More soon…” he Tweeted on June 21.

Sheen re-Tweeted the announcement, adding his own personal message to his followers: “My fellow Americans!”

The film, which is set to premiere in 2013, will star Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Mel Gibson, Amber Heard, Zoe Saldana and Sofia Vergara. The movie will follow Machete, played by Trejo, after he’s recruited by the U.S. government to battle his way through Mexico in pursuit of an arms dealer.

Ironically, the former “Two and a Half Men” star’s father, Martin Sheen, famously acted as President in the 1999 television show “The West Wing.”

More recently, the actor says he was in “total denial” about his self-proclaimed “winning” ways during a 2011 public meltdown, made amid his firing from the CBS show “Two and a Half Men.”

The actor made his comments to Rolling Stone magazine in an interview published on its website on Wednesday, June 6. Sheen, who has battled substance abuse for years, also said he has not given up drinking alcohol.

Sheen was axed from “Two and a Half Men” in March 2011, after he insulted its producers to the press. He continued his rants after his firing, on television, radio, online and even on homemade podcasts. He also coined catchphrases such as “Duh, winning!” and “Tiger Blood.” His meltdown followed a rehab stint and months of personal turmoil. He later performed similar rants on stages across the country but received lackluster critiques.

“Clearly, a guy gets fired, his relationships are in the toilet, he’s off on some (expletive) tour, there’s nothing ‘winning’ about any of that,” Sheen told Rolling Stone. “I mean, how does a guy who’s obviously quicksanded, how does he consider any of it a victory? I was in total denial.”

The actor has three ex-wives and five children. He has long been known for his partying lifestyle and affection for porn stars. Sheen’s rants made him even more popular, especially among adult men.

The actor has been promoting his new FX sitcom “Anger Management,” which is based on the 2003 comedy film. It premieres on June 28 and stars Selma Blair and “Saw” actress Shawnee Smith as Sheen’s therapist and ex-wife, respectively.
