The Notebook” has been known for its epic romance story, which sparked an off-screen relationship between the film’s stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, but it also reportedly helped end singer R. Kelly’s marriage.

In his new autobiography “Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me,” R. Kelly writes, according to MTV, that he knew his marriage to back up dancer Andrea Kelly was over after seeing the 2004 film in theaters and realizing their romance wasn’t up to what he saw.

R. Kelly married Andrea Kelly in 1996 and the two have three children together. The couple divorced in January 2009 after 12 years of marriage. Andrea Kelly now co-stars on the reality show “Hollywood Exes” alongside Will Smith’s ex-wife Sheree Fletcher and Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife Nicole Murphy.

“The Notebook” tells the love story of Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun during the 1940s with flash-forwards to the present.

R. Kelly wrote, according to MTV, “As the film credits started to roll, I couldn’t move. I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. ‘The Notebook’ was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together.”

“But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine’s Day — when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses — that had come and gone,” he continued. “My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back.”

Kelly’s autobiography was co-written by David Ritz and also includes his stories from his childhood, his early music career as a street performer in Chicago and his current success.

The singer is a three-time Grammy Award-winner and has sold 35 million records worldwide. He’s known for songs like “Bump n’ Grind,” “I Believe I Can Fly,” “Ignition (Remix),” and his “Trapped in the Closet” series.

His 11th studio album, “Write Me Back,” hit stories on June 26 and contains tracks such as “Share My Love” and “Feelin’ Single.”

On June 27, it was reported that the singer had “taken ill” and was forced to cancel several promotional appearances.
