Rihanna’s documentary debuted May 6 on Fox, bringing us all into the world of RiRi — and what a world it is!
Rihanna let cameras follow her during her seven-show tour that went to seven countries in severn days. Talk about a one of a kind experience that you had to see to believe, and thanks to Rihanna, we finally got to see it all! (Well, almost all of it, anyway.)
Rihanna Calls Tour ‘Brutal’ In New Documentary
Rihanna got to go to some incredible places on her 777 Tour — including Mexico City, Toronto, Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, and New York City. But two shows into the tour, RiRi was already over it, saying, “It’s already feeling a little brutal.” You might have thought the special was going to be equally as brutal, but as in life, there is always a silver lining!
Some background: Back in Nov. 2012, Rihanna invited dozens of journalists on her 777 tour, which consisted of seven concerts in seven countries in seven days via a 777 aircraft. Makes sense, right? Minus the lively concerts, there were endless reports that the journalists had a horrible time — but you definitely didn’t see that aspect during this hour-long documentary. That’s because the doc was more of an hour-long commercial for RiRi’s latest album than something you expect to see in a documentary, like a story complete good times and hard times.
I’m not sure we really learned anything new during our time with the R&B princess, but we got to hear some good songs along the way. Speaking of that, we saw her sing (from time to time), then watch as she dealt with the tour demands — but after the hour, we were left wanting more!
Granted, if you’re a Rihanna fan — a member of the “Rihanna Navy,” even — this was probably a great time to be in her world, ever-so-briefly. “I know this is going to be an experience of a lifetime,” she said at the beginning. “It’s gonna be unlike anything we’ve ever experienced.”
And one of the things that makes that reality funny was when an Australian DJ, instead of Rihanna, was dared to streak to relieve the journalist’s stress during the grueling trip. Too bad it wasn’t RiRi herself; that would have been incredible.
