After waiting fro what feels like a LIFETIME R8 is nearly upon us.
“Rihanna” has finally started blabbing about her elusive eighth record revealing that R8 is going to blow up, from the moment it drops which could be any second now – although admittedly that’s probably unlikely. “The Bajan beauty” has spilled that the pending album will be more of a timeless affair, blasting some her previous work, which she says just doesn’t feel like RiRi anymore.
During a press conference for her new animated movie Home, the global megastar, who was recently named the first black female for French fashion house Dior, assured that we are in for her biggest record yet – perhaps because for the first time in her nine year career the singer decided to take some time with her latest comeback. It’s been over two years since Unapologetic became the soundtrack to our Friday nights and we are so ready for its follow up.
I’ve made a lot of songs that are really, really big songs, she said. From the jump, they just blow up. And I wanted to kind of get back to — not that they weren’t real music, but I just wanted to focus on things that felt real, that felt soulful, that felt forever.
Admittedly, she says some of her biggest hits just don’t cut the mustard like they used to and when you’ve got to tour the world for almost a year regurgitating the same set list every night then you sure as heck want to enjoy it.
I wanted songs that I could perform in 15 years; I wanted an album that I could perform in 15 years, she concluded. Not any songs that were burnt out. I find that when I get on stage now, I don’t want to perform a lot of my songs. They don’t feel like me. So I want to make songs that are timeless.
Well, it’s so far so good. She’s already released the lead single FourFiveSeconds which has left us unbelievably intrigued by R8. The track featuring Kanye West and that guy from The Beatles, you know the one, takes a startling alternative direction from previous first singles – We Found Love, Diamonds, Only Girl In The World, all heavy beat laced pop smashers we’re sure you’ll agree – with a surprisingly subtle start for her eighth campaign.
Then on March 5 she dropped a 15 second teaser for the outrageously sexy Higher, which proves her from the jump, they just blow up, hypothesis perfectly. Basically, she’s of to a flying start with album number eight; we just need to hear the rest of it now please Bad Gal.
