Eat without any distractions

Take your food and make it more of a ritual. Instead of looking at food as something to do while you watch TV or read a magazine, instead allow yourself to be present with your meal. This means turning off the TV, power down your computer and your smart phones. Instead just be with you and your plate sitting in the kitchen. Sit at the dining room table or counter, which can add to the experience and make it more of a ritual.

This will make your Ben & Jerry’s less appetizing and less possible to overeat, if you’re sitting at the kitchen table no more comfort food because it loses its luster. Only healthy food will make a difference.

Avoid mindlessly eating

When you sit in front of TV or surf the Internet while eating you often overeat, sometimes without even realizing it. You will most often consume more calories; instead practice being present with your food.

Avoid Off limits

When you tell yourself that you can’t have this, or you can’t eat that, chances are you will binge or eat more of it. The whole idea of “bad food” is really constricting and can cause people who have eating issues to overeat or not eat enough. In fact when you’re looking at food labels instead try to read healthy labels that are going to make you feel good. For example if you know how you feel after you eat a lot of sugar look for sugar in the labels, and think if you want to feel that way after eating the food. Focus on how your body feels.  You don’t have to say “I am not eating this, or I can’t have that” it will free you from worry.

Listen to your body

Listening to your body will make a big difference in the way you care for your overall health. Your body is talking to you all the time. Learning to listen to the cues will really help.

If you’re anxious and sad turning to food perhaps won’t help. But you can call a friend. If you feel very hungry drink a glass of water and see if it was really just thirst. There are many things that you can do to change your outlook on life and improve your energy level and it starts with the food you eat and the food in the balance that comes into your body practice healthy habits for great overall health
