1. Maintain a Healthy Diet

Healthy hair starts from the inside out. You need to eat nutrient-dense foods to help promote growth and reduce hair loss. Protein is essential for hair health because hair is mostly composed of keratin, which is a type of protein.

You should try to include lean meats, fish, eggs, beans and low-fat dairy products. Try to also eat foods containing zinc (nuts and seeds) along with omega-3 fatty acids (like salmon, flaxseeds and yogurt) to keep your scalp healthy and to reduce shedding.

2. Stay Hydrated

Water is key to keeping your hair moist and healthy. Staying hydrated is vital so your hair follicles are nourished from the inside out to minimize brittleness and increase elasticity; be sure to drink your daily share of water to keep your hair and scalp hydrated.

3. Products Matter

Using products that fit the specific hair type is essential to prevent damage and promote hair growth. Our hair ultimately needs to remain healthy for it to grow.

8. Protect Your Hair While You Sleep

Pampering your hair at night is just as important as pampering your hair during the daytime. Cotton pillowcases take moisture from your hair and cause friction leading to breakage. Use a satin pillowcase or a silk bonnet to keep the moisture in and limit damage to your health.

9. Manage Stress and Take Care of Yourself

When we are stressed out, our hair doesn’t grow as well, and we can experience shedding. If you like, do stress-reducing things like meditation, or exercising, or any self-care type of routines that support your health and well-being.
