Miss World 2025: Opal Suchata Chuangsri Makes History for Thailand

The first Miss World title for Thailand was conquered last night by Opal Suchata @suchaaata

The Miss World 2025 pageant will be viewed as a pivotal moment in the reality of global beauty contests, when Thailand’s Opal Suchata Chuangsri was crowned winner in a magnificent ceremony in Hyderabad, India.

Not only was it the first time that a Thai contestant has accomplished such a historic feat, it demonstrated the growing prevalence of resilience, advocacy, and global citizens that is increasingly found in the modern age of beauty pageants.

A Trailblazer from Phuket

Opal Suchata Chuangsri was born on September 20, 2003, in the beautiful coastal city of Phuket, the only child of a family who worked in the hospitality industry. Opal was raised understanding the importance of service and cultural hospitality. Her multicultural upbringing bred a passion for languages and global concepts. She is a trilingual–fluent in Thai, English, and Chinese – and is currently enrolled in Thammasat University in Bangkok completing a degree in Political Science and International Relations.

Moving Up in the Ranks

Opal’s path to become Miss World started with early success on the national pageant level, ultimately winning the title of Miss Universe Thailand 2024 and earning third runner up at Miss Universe 2024. Her grace, intelligence, and commitment to social cause set her apart early in her international experience. At the age of 16, Opal had surgery to remove a benign breast lump, a life-changing event that created the motivation for her to create the “Opal For Her” campaign, dedicated to raising awareness with respect to breast health, and early detection.

Advocacy from the Heart

Opal’s advocacy served as the basis of her “Beauty with Purpose” platform. “Opal For Her” is a campaign that seeks to empower women to put their health first, and begin early interventions with breast health related issues. This personal journey resonated with judges and audiences and created recognition for Opal as a changemaker, and advocate of women’s health worldwide.

Following her win, Opal was interviewed exclusively and stated, “I had breast surgery after being diagnosed with a benign tumour when I was 16. I promote breast cancer awareness.” Countless young women have been empowered by Opal’s vulnerability and strength to share such intimate parts of herself.

An Evening to Remember

Opal was the champion over 107 contestants from all over the world, including runner-up Hasset Dereje Admassu from Ethiopia. The grand final was a celebration of diversity, togetherness, and empowerment. As she stood on stage decorated in a white gown with opal-like florals, symbolizing healing and strength, Opal was crowned by last year’s Miss World, Krystyna Pyszkova of the Czech Republic.

Inspiring a Generation

Opal’s historic win means much more than a personal victory for herself; it was also a moment of pride for Thailand and a guiding light of hope for young people everywhere. Her story shows that beauty, intelligence, and kindness can coexist, and that we can all turn our life’s megaphones into vehicles for positive global change.

As Miss World 2025, Opal Suchata Chuangsri is now a beacon of advocacy, courage and the boundless capabilities of empowered women. With her reign, we should anticipate new dialogues about health, inclusiveness, and the importance of young leaders empowering change.
