The newest member of the X Factor USA panel was rescued offshore of Provincetown, Massachusetts, on Friday, July 19, when the private boat she and her friends had rented for a whale watching trip, got caught in strong winds.

The Wicked Local news site report that five people including the Destiny’s Child singer were in the middle of their fun day trip when the boat reportedly became “disoriented” in the gusty winds and high seas.

Luckily Kelly and her mates were able to contact the local Coast Guard who sent out a tow boat to escort them back to dry land.

TowBoat US Provincetown said on its Facebook page that the boat was 33 miles (53km) north of Provincetown, adding that all passengers “were great. Just a little shook up”.

It looks like Kelly was none the worse for her adventure on the high seas as a source tells Us Weekly that the 32-year-old was spotted shopping in Provincetown the following day browsing local furniture, art, and trying out local delicacy saltwater taffy!

The singer didn’t give any hint as to her busy weekend on Twitter, simply tweeting her followers this morning: “Hope you guys had a lovely weekend. – xo”
