Sports: Following a battle, Nigerian boxer Gabriel Olanrewaju passes away

Local media reported that Gabriel Olanrewaju, who was fighting in the light-heavyweight category, passed away. In the ring, he fell to the ground.

On March 29, at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Nigerian light-heavyweight Gabriel Olanrewaju, 31, a former national and West African champion, passed away after falling during a bout with Ghanaian Jon Mbanugu.

He reportedly passed out in the third round. The Nigerian boxer didn’t seem to have been hit.

According to the Ghana Boxing Authority, the athlete passed away at Korle Bu Hospital 30 minutes after receiving medical care.

He has a professional record of 23 fights overall.
