10 African Women Who Will Make History in 2025

Not only are African women breaking down walls in 2025, but they are also breaking new grounds in leadership, innovation, activism, and creativity.  These pioneers are re-writing the history of the continent in politics, business, science, entertainment, and activism.

They are also inspiring a generation to reach for higher things.  Here are 10 African women making history in 2025:

1. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia

In December 2024, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah became the first female president of Namibia. It was a major development in the politics of Southern Africa. Her presidency is a wonderful signal for gender representation improvement and an inspiration for women to be in charge on the continent.

2. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria

Okonjo-Iweala continues to call the shots on the world economy as Director-General of the World Trade Organization. In 2025, she was awarded the FORBES WOMAN AFRICA Lifetime Achievement Award for her more than three decades of experience working in banking, trade, and developing African women.

3. Arunma Oteh of Nigeria

FORBES WOMAN AFRICA named Oteh the Changemaker of the Decade. She is the Chair of the Royal African Society as well as a global finance leader.  Her work on governance and financial inclusion has raised the bar for women in business and government.

4. Tiwa Savage (Nigeria)

Tiwa Savage, world Afrobeats legend, was awarded the 2025 FORBES WOMAN AFRICA Media Icon Award.  She is an entrepreneur and storyteller who promotes Africa’s creative economy and inspires young women to seek out their artistic dreams.

5. Ifeoma Uddoh of Nigeria

Uddoh is the founder and CEO of Shecluded, and she is changing access to money for African women entrepreneurs.  Her fintech has invested more than $4.4 million in female-owned businesses, reaching 40,000 women and making her a world leader in advocating gender-lens investing.

6. Liz Agbor-Tabi (Cameroon/World)

Agbor-Tabi is a powerful voice in global health policy through her role as Vice President of Global Citizen.  She has worked with organizations like the WHO to execute multimillion-dollar campaigns and influence policies that enhance the lives of people across the world.

7. Abike Adedeji of Nigeria

She is a fashion mogul and movie producer known as Abbyke Domina. Her own designs have clothed Grammy award winners and changed the way people view African fashion. Her company is a blend of culture and fashion, and hence she is a trailblazer on the entire continent.

8. Ashenafi Meaza (Ethiopia)

Ashenafi is the first female Chief Justice of Ethiopia and trailblazing lawyer and women’s rights activist. She co-established the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association and Enat Bank, which helped women gain legal and economic empowerment.

9. Salima Musbah (Libya)

Musbah started the Libyan Peace Ambassadors Initiative, which empowered over 120 women with the necessary skills to help with reconciliation and governance.  Her work has changed the lives of thousands of war and hardship survivors of women who struggled for Libya’s future to be fair.

10. Adenike Macaulay of Nigeria

Macaulay is an excellent businesswoman as Wakanow CEO, Africa’s largest travel company.  She is featured on Nigeria’s 100 most inspiring women list and is a diversity, equity, and inclusion warrior in the travel sector.

These 10 African women are shattering history in 2025, from presidential palaces to boardrooms, courts, and creative spaces. Not only are they transforming their industries, but they are also encouraging millions of people to feel that African women can lead, create new ideas, and cause lasting change.
