Abedi Pele backs local coach for Ghana job

Ghana legend Abedi Ayew Pele is backing the appointment of a local

coach for the Black Stars.

Abedi Pele

Reports have linked interim-coach Kwesi Appiah and Sellas Tetteh to the job

which became vacant after the dismissal of Serbian Goran Stevanovic last month.

But ex-France captain Marcel Desailly

is said to be the frontrunner to become the next Black Stars coach.

What looks certain is that the Ghana Football

Association will not appoint an expatriate coach this time round.

Pele, who guided his second-tier side Nania FC to

win last season’s Ghana MTN FA Cup, says a Ghanaian coach can handle the national team.

“I don’t mind if a Ghanaian

takes the job,” the three-time African Footballer of the Year said.

“They have to give him [Desailly] all the support

that they gave to the European coaches.”

“Look, those who have won all the trophies for Ghana are all local coaches.

What is wrong with keeping a local coach?.”

The Ghana FA set a three-week timeline to appoint Goran Stevanovic’s

successor.
