New York: Touring helicopter crashes into the Hudson River, killing all six on board including three children

On Thursday, a tourist helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in New York City, killing all six persons on board including a Spanish family with three children and the pilot, Mayor Eric Adams said.

Among the dead was Agustin Escobar, CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, the train division of German technology corporation Siemens.

Agustin Escobar, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children perished with an unknown pilot when the helicopter crashed into the dark waters of the Hudson.

Tragically, the family was in New York City celebrating the birthday of one of their three small children.

The family chose to spend their first day in Manhattan by enjoying a picturesque journey viewing the Statue of Liberty after arriving in the city.

Operated by New York Helicopter Tours, the Bell 206 chopper flew north over the Hudson River from a downtown helicopter pad, departing around 3 p.m. ET (1900 GMT).

The victims were taken from the water with help of divers. While two more were sent to local hospitals, where they passed away, four were declared dead on the scene.
