Dominican Republic: 98 people were killed when the roof of a nightclub collapsed.

When the roof of a Santo Domingo Jet Set nightclub collapsed on Monday night, at least 98 people lost their lives and more than 150 were injured. Rubby Pérez, an emblematic merengue singer, was among the victims.

The disaster took place on Tuesday at approximately 12:44 am, and it is considered one of the most devastating tragedies in the Dominican Republic’s history.

The death toll is on the rise, and there is no prospect of locating anyone alive.

According to media reports, the Jet Set, a nightclub that is frequented by celebrities and night night owls, was attended by 500 to 1,000 people. The number of missing individuals has not been disclosed by the authorities.

Numerous notable figures were among the victims, including the governor of Monte Cristi province, Nelsy Cruz, and former baseball players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco.

In honor of the victims, Dominican President Luis Abinader visited the scene in the morning and declared three days of national mourning.
