3 easy Ways to Drink More Water

With a little research, it’s clear that no one actually knows where the saying that you should drink 8 cups of water a day came from. Some believe this number comes from a study in the 1980s, while others argue that doctors only started telling people this amount because it was a good goal to aim for but they didn’t have the scientific research to back it up.

Either way, the point is clear: water does wonders for your body and your brain. Water is known to cleanse harmful chemicals from the body through the intestines and urinary tract. Without adequate fluid intake, our bodies can deteriorate rapidly within a few days. However, some people can survive for 1-2 weeks without food, which shows how important water is to our bodies.

Here are 3 simple tips to help you absorb more water:

Always have water on hand.

I like to buy 12 ounce bottles of water and keep them in the fridge. I always bring a bottle with me when I go to the gym. I bring a bottle with me when I go to work. I take a bottle with me before any trip longer than 30 minutes. I drink from a bottle when I watch a movie.

When I sit in front of the TV or a movie, I hold a bottle in my hand, without the cap on. I take small sips until the bottle is empty. A good way to ensure you drink more water is to have easy access to a bottle.

Keep it Chilled.

Not many people like drinking water at room temperature. At least, I don’t. Keeping water chilled helps you drink more of it. I always try to keep ice in the freezer so I can easily have cold water whenever I want.

Choose water at restaurants.

When I eat out, I always drink my water with a dash of lemon. The lemon adds a little liveliness to the flavor, and the water is always cool and refreshing. After a while, you’ll find yourself craving your former favorite drink less and begin to appreciate the taste, or lack thereof, that water offers.

Give water a chance, and your body will thank you!
