Creativity and artistry go hand-in-hand. Unfortunately, the two do not always make an appearance at the same time. There will be moments when you want to create something epic, but the juices just aren’t following. Or maybe your current work does not reflect the emotions you want it to convey. Check out these tips to improve your creative process as an artist.

Don’t Be Afraid To Collab

A lot of artists are private, and they like to keep their work to themselves. There is nothing wrong with that process, but don’t be afraid to venture out every now and then. Seeking out other artists and collaborating with them can be a great form of inspiration.

Take a break from your current piece and see if you can create something new with another artist. Walking away from your work and coming back to it with fresh eyes will help clear your mind.

Brainstorm with other artists about your current work and ask them to take a look at what you’ve completed so far. Be willing to take constructive criticism. You don’t need to adhere to all their suggestions, but it will give you something to think about.

Quality Over Quantity

When it comes to art, it’s always about quality over quantity. Whether you’re creating sculptures, illustrations, graphic designs, or paintings, you don’t need to worry about making things in abundance. People want to see the quality of your work, not how much of it you can produce.

More importantly, don’t be obsessed with perfection. There is no such thing as perfect. Even Michelangelo found flaws in the Sistine Chapel, which is one of the most renowned pieces of art. Try everything until you settle on a mode and style you’re content with.

Make Your Own Space

You need your own space to work freely. Trying to get your art done with too many distractions in the way will make the process more frustrating. You don’t need to go out and find a studio when you can make one.

Consider dedicating a room in your home solely to your art. If you don’t have the space available in your home, consider the available space you have outside it. Think about building a shed for your art. With a shed, you have more room to spread out all your supplies and your previous and current work. Make sure you include a window, so you can always look out at your backyard for inspiration or to give your eyes a break.

See Beauty Everywhere

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What you consider beautiful may not translate to another. But that’s what makes it extraordinary. Explore the world and everything surrounding you, so you can find inspiration in some of the most unlikely places.

Spend a couple of days away from your studio. Take a mini vacation and document everything you see. Write down what you find beautiful about what you see. It could even be as small as the color or maybe an imperfection. Don’t get frustrated when you get stuck with your artwork. Just consider these tips to improve your creative process.
