Anti-gay Russian activists have sent a court summons
Madonna has certainly never been afraid to cause controversy throughout her career but now the singer has been summoned to a Russian court after ‘promoting homosexuality’ at a recent concert in St. Petersberg, according to a new report.
Anti-gay Russian activists have reportedly sent a court summons to Madonna’s New York City home, claiming they suffered “moral damages” after her show this year.
During her show an St. Petersberg back on August 9 the singer picked out pink bracelets and asked the audience to raise their arms in support of homosexual rights.
According to Russia Today, nine plaintiffs from the pro-Kremlin group Trade Union of Russian Citizens want to see Madonna prosecuted for the action as it is illegal to promote homosexuality in St. Petersberg.
They are claiming that Madonna broke the local law, which was passed in March earlier this year, that forbids the propaganda of sodomy, lesbianism, bisexualism and transgenderism, and pedophilia to minors.
“She insulted believers’ feelings, she promoted homosexuality when there were children at the concert and this is forbidden in St Petersburg,” union spokesperson Darya Dedova is quoted as saying in Russia Today.
“We, the residents of the cultural capital, suffered a colossal moral damage.”
The group are now seeking that Madonna pays out 333 million rubles ($10m/£6.7m) in damages.
Madonna has yet to respond to the complaints and did not show up at court on the specified date of October 11.
