Robert Pattinson on Adele argument: I regret every word

Robert Pattinson might have thought he was giving Adele some good advice, but apparently Adele was having none of it from the “Twilight Saga” star.

During an interview with Canadian talk show host George Stroumboulopoulos, Pattinson said he regretted getting into an argument with the fellow British singer.

“I had this argument with Adele, which is probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever said. [I told her] you know, you can really just reach for it!'” Pattinson recalled. “And she was like, ‘You do realize I’m, like, the biggest selling female artist ever.’ And for some reason, I decided to get into an argument with her about it.”

“How did that happen?” Stroumboulopoulos asked the 26-year-old actor. “Two o’clock in the morning somewhere?”

“Yeah,” Pattinson said, laughing. “Then [I was] waking up kind of really, really regretting every word I said.”

Adele’s sophomore album “21” broke several Billboard records for the singer, including the longest command of the No.1 spot on the Billboard 200 and the first woman in the Hot 100’s history to place three songs in the top 10 concurrently as a lead artist. She also sold the most copies of an album in one year.

Although Adele, 24, hasn’t commented on her argument with Pattinson, the “Cosmopolis” actor said he is working on controlling his pretentiousness.

“I was in Cannes doing these interviews and I was really fighting to not look pretentious for years, and then someone gives you one inch of the possibility of being pretentious, and I was, like, grabbing it so hard, going around being the biggest douche bag,” Pattinson laughed. “Now I’ve kind of reined it in again.”

When asked if the actor believed that fame has affected his social life and made him more private, Pattinson admitted that he has always had anti-social tendencies.

“I’ve always been like this. I’m one of those people who is dying to go to the party and then when I get there I just hang out in the corner with the people I came with, not talking to anybody else anyway,” Pattinson said. “I have this fantasy that if I wasn’t famous I’d be out meeting random people on the street but that’s not true. Most of the time you try to avoid random people on the street whether you’re famous or not.”

Pattinson is currently promoting his upcoming film “Cosmopolis,” which follows a 28-year-old millionaire asset manager’s (Pattinson) whose day goes off-track when a myriad of characters begin to tear his world apart. The gritty drama premiered at Cannes and is slated to hit theaters later in the year.

He will also appear in the final installment of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,” which hits theaters on November 16.
