US news: NYPD: Mom of baby abandoned in subway in custody

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police have found the mother suspected of abandoning a baby at a Manhattan subway station.

Police say the 20-year-old woman is being questioned. She was found around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in the vicinity of 72nd Street and Broadway.

No charges were immediately filed. The investigation is continuing.

Police say the woman pushed the baby’s stroller onto the platform when the northbound No. 1 train arrived at the Columbus Circle station. They say she then got back onto the train.

Authorities say the baby is 6 to 7 months old. She was examined at Roosevelt Hospital. Police say there were no apparent signs of trauma.

The baby is in the care of the Administration for Children’s Services.
