Isaac Yacouba Zida as prime minister on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, came just a day after the United States and others praised Burkina Faso for pressing ahead with a civilian transitional government.

The list was read out Sunday evening, less than one week after longtime diplomat Michel Kafando was officially sworn in as president. Kafando will also serve as minister of foreign affairs.

Former President Blaise Compaore, who held onto power for 27 years, resigned last month amid widespread protests against his bid to stay in office. Lt. Col. Isaac Yacouba Zida initially took control of the country, though he came under intense international pressure to restore civilian rule.

Zida will head the defense ministry, and army officers were also posted to the energy, territorial administration and sports ministries.
