A paralysed teenager will kick-off the football World Cup in Brazil using a revolutionary robotic bodysuit.

Scientists are building a hi-tech exoskeleton that will enable the severely disabled youngster to walk.

Tiny sensors implanted into his brain will detect thoughts about movement and then transmit them to motorised leg-braces.

The idea is part of the Walk Again project, a joint international effort spearheaded by leading Brazilian scientist Miguel Nicolelis.

The system is being tested on eight boys before one is chosen for June’s opening ceremony in Sao Paulo.

A source said: “It will show Brazil is at the forefront of the developing world, not only in sport but in science and technology too.”
