U.S. Weather Press Review Across Country: July Heat, Humidity, and Storms Dominate Forecasts

The U.S. weather press review around country for Monday, July 14, 2025, showcases a classic midsummer pattern for July: heat, humidity, and storms are occurring or expected from coast to coast.

As summer is at its peak, many in the U.S. are facing whatever their local summer weather looks like. Sticking with regionalism, meteorologists and reporters with local newsrooms will be working to track local differences and risks.

National Overview: Hot, Humid, and Unsettled

July temperatures in the U.S. are meeting all expectations – average high temperatures that are (20 °C – 28 °C) 68 °F- 82 °F. It is occurring with rain, as we should expect about two-thirds of the U.S. experiences 8-15 rainy days this month, meaning umbrellas and/or rain boots are still the order of the day for many in the U.S. Plenty of sunlight is also occurring in July, with over 10 daily hours of sunshine in most areas. Of course, you can’t escape the high humidity and threats of storms either.

East Coast: Humid Air and Threat of Storms

Its a week of high humidity and isolated thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast to start being reported by meteorologists in Hampton Roads, Virginia with the ground still saturated from recent rains and, in quotes, heavy rain and scattered storms likely again this afternoon and evening.

The heat index values will be climbing into the upper 90s, with some areas likely to be feeling like 105 degrees Fahrenheit by the middle to end of the week due to possible heat advisories. The forecast is still reporting the weather pattern of partly cloudy mornings, and increased chances for isolated downpours and possible thunderstorms starting by midday until the afternoon.

Midwest: Sunshine Followed by Afternoon Storms

Forecasters in Metro Detroit, Michigan and Southeast Michigan, are following a common summer rhythm: sunshine in the morning, possible storms in the afternoon and evening. Although mornings are enjoyable and pleasant, residents will need to look out for pop-up storms later in the day as humidity climbs. This will be the weather pattern for the remainder of the week, with a chance for more widespread rain being better on Wednesday.

Northeast: Warm Days, Comfortable Nights

New York and the Northeast have been welcomed by mild to warm days, and cool nights. In Brooklyn, daily highs remain in the 80s, while overnight lows trail into the mid-60s. While this region has received less rain than the South and Midwest, and we can expect showers and periods of clouds, the daily showers will still likely happen in the afternoons.

South and Gulf Coast: Heat and Tropical Watch

The South continues with oppressive heat and humidity, with heat indices reaching over 100°F routinely. We are monitoring a westerly disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico, although it currently looks to have a limited chance of tropical formation, but may bring additional rain to coastal states later in the week. Residents can expect afternoon storms and must stay hydrated and monitor their local alerts.

West: Drier and Hot

The press review shows that the West is generally drier and sunnier, as is the case for much in the country, the heat is still a concern especially in some interior valleys and desert regions. No major storm threats on the horizon although anything is possible. As the dry season continues here in July, wildfire risk will grow.

Looking Ahead

With nowhere for heat or humidity to go for much of the country, the meteorological community is urging Americans to be mindful of staying cool, to watch for afternoon storms, and to stay informed of local advisories. The U.S. weather press review around the country indicates that July 2025 is going to be a month of classic summer extremes – flexibility and vigilance will be key for communities across the country.
